Do you find yourself in need of a holder or basket to store your things without it being an eyesore? Look no further, we have the perfect DIY activity for you.

In today’s tutorial, we’re going to teach you how to make Rope Bowls or Baskets from ordinary rope that you can find in your home. This is a great way to store away objects that create unnecessary clutter and creates a nice rustic aesthetic for your home. So, let’s get started!

Materials

  • Ceramic, glass, stainless steel bowl for size
  • Long rope
  • Glue gun

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Keep all the materials you need on your work table. For your first attempt, you may want to take the help of a friend.
  2. The first step is to apply a liberal amount of glue to the frayed end of the rope. This stops the rope from unravelling in the future.
  3. Start coiling the rope and sticking it together with the glue gun.
  4. Once you have a flat base that looks like a coaster you can place it under your glass or ceramic bowl. Remember, the bowl will just be used to coil the rope around so it takes the shape of it.
  5. Next, continue to coil the rope around the bowl. You may not be able to prevent the glue from sticking to the bowl, but that’s okay.
  6. Once you’re done covering the size of the bowl, slowly remove the glass bowl from the rope basket you’ve created.
  7. Finally, glue together the other frayed end of the rope to give it a finishing touch. Let it dry for a few hours.
  8. Your rope basket is ready! You can use it to store fruit, snacks, stationery, or any other things that are taking up too much space on your counter.

Pro Tip

In case you don’t have rope in the house you can head to your local hardware store or stationery shop to buy it. Remember that your rope should not be too thin because it will take you an eternity for you to glue it together. You can improvise and form braids with existing rope and use it to make your basket. This will add a nice funky texture to your rope basket.
